Thanks! I spent a good 1.5 hrs on it. I had to seriously sit and think about each scene from a writing standpoint and how the writers wanted us to interpret it. Additionally my old prof told me that if you think dialogue contributes to rape culture then replace sex wtb rape in the statement if the statement becomes nonsensical then it’s definitely not rape culture. :)

I had to do something. I want to meet that anon if it’s the same nonnie that’s sent me other questions in the past especially. Nonnie come tell me who you are!! Lol

But thank you for your message and for reading with an open mind.

You’re post just clarified what i knew all along, and to think i was putting myself down for supporting captain swan just because accusations were being thrown left right and center about rape culture, but i thank you for bringing me back to my original viewpoints and showing me that i am right to be supporting captain swan and it isn’t rape culture AT ALL.

Hi Catherine,

You shouldn’t put yourself down for what you ship. Neither should SQ, SF, or any ship. My problem is with a particular subset of shippers and haters. They are twisting and taking things out of context to suit their means and it’s wrong.  It’s one thing to have a different opinion in the context of the show - but to remove all context as they do just to support their claims is wrong. In television shows it’s not just the dialogue that’s important, it’s tone of voice, its body language, facial expressions. Its the actor’s job to bring to life the writer’s words on the page so that we the audience get the message the writers are trying to give us. It’s not really open for interpretation if you’re removing context of the show. I wanted to point by point illustrate what rape culture actually is. Its hard on the internet because you have things like wikipedia, wikia, and blogs that have no business saying they spout truth when it’s merely bullshit most of the time.

I’m glad you read and it helped you understand where I am coming from. I ship a lot of ships on OUAT but I am an adult and can set those ship prefs aside to make a clear argument. The other side can’t seem to do that.

and i love you for it, i hate that in this day and age people can’t actually go out and researched properly what rape culture ACTUALLY is , is astounding, that people have to be told that this isn;t rape culture, i feel like most haters just go along wih it becuase of what they see other people putting on tumblr and don’t actually really look into it.

Oh of course they won’t research it. Who has time? But seriously reading actual feminist theory for months helped me see a lot of bullshit in this world. Tumblr is a great platform but tumblr activism is essentially one gigantic game of telephone. One user says “this is interesting”, and 1,000 users later it’s some how the root of all evil in society and how the patriarchy is winning when it’s just something as innocuous as an image of a man giving a woman a flower.

People think, actually think everything they read is true. One psych study from Harvard last year I think said that even when presented with cold hard facts, people will more often cling to erroneous beliefs even harder than before.

i often just sigh deeply and look the other way, i really want this fandom to get along and it’s best sometimes to just ignore it.

Except posts like this in which things that needed to be said were said and people need to learn about what they are saying so they do know what they are talking about properly. People need to be educated on these issues properly. And not just go off of tumblr.

Why do people think that all SQ shippers are the same? That we are all hateful and insane. I hate when I see a post saying something about SQ shippers are toxic and that they should all just go away. Being an SQ shipper myself, I take those…

This has so many parallels with captain swan it’s crazy.
